Flat front, flat panel or "slab" doors can be constructed in many different ways and the construction style will determine the price to build.  No matter how they are made they will still have no frames, hence the name ”slab” doors.  Let’s take a look at the most common types of material used in making these flat front doors.

MDF (particle board): this is Medium Density Fiberboard and is the standard material used if the finish will be painted.  Oftentimes this is the main layer that can be covered in plastic laminate or thermofoil.

Class A Plywood
:  This is a combination of cheaper ply wood of pine or other softer woods with a top layer of higher quality and finish.  Cabinet doors with this finish are a great option for custom kitchen cabinets at a lower cost.  The edges of the slab are finished with a hardwood veneer tape.

Solid Hardwood:
If you are looking for a durable long lasting door, hardwood slab is the way to go.  It will be more expensive and are found in most custom kitchen cabinet remodels.  There are a number of wood types and finishes to choose from and offer the best quality.
